Recently
the biggest Islamic group in Indonesia named FPI or also known as Front
Pembela Islam officially has been disbanded by Indonesian
government, although this group has been stated as unofficial group because
they not extend the period of their Certification of Registration on June 20,
2019. The government of Indonesia announce that FPI has been banned on any operation
on December 30 2020. The group not allowed to use any of their attributes, flags,
or running an event.
The
group change their name from Front Pembela Islam to Front Persatuan Islam and
announced by Aziz Yanuar as attorney of FPI on January 1, 2021, the group also
will change their logo and flag with the new one.
The group
usually to an organized event such as recitation, Islamic event and homily. But
all this group activity does not break the law, how come they get disbanded by
the government?
Some
activity that controversial are protest to People’s Consultative Assembly of
Indonesia to repeal Pancasila as Indonesia single principle on 1996, dissolution
of liquor and prostitution place on 1999, members of FPI group clash with local
citizen on 2013, and recently wedding gathering and Prophet’s birthday on 2020.
Some of this act leads to clash or unrest between FPI with the local police or
the local civilian instead, the group also disobeyed the social distancing by held
a wedding ceremony and Prophet’s birthday.
Some
members of FPI rely on the group as their social life and also source of income.
The group often get more money by held an event or secure some event. The group only grow larger and able to expend
on various region in Indonesia because most of Indonesian are Muslims and this
group is well known as an Islamic group.
Some
people happy about the disbandment because they don’t have to worry about this
unofficial group going to clash with local citizen anymore, but some are
unhappy because the group of their religion get disbanded for unclear reason.
The disbandment of FPI group looks
like nothing changed. The group only change its name and will be able to operate
as soon as the government approve their exist. Soon the group might be involved
on another controversial activist or maybe the opposite, but to me this just
make no difference for the society.
